October News
Join your church family on October 25th as we celebrate World Communion Sunday with our Christian brothers and sisters around the globe. At Penfield Presbyterian, our service will feature Salva Dut, from Water from Sudan. Salva will share his mission for providing clean healthy drinking water to people in southern Sudan.

Following worship, every one of all ages is invited to join together in an inclusive drumming circle! Participants will be provided with instruments and will be led in a number of beats and rhythms. A drum circle is an enjoyable group activity in which participants can enhance physical, spiritual, and mental well being. Drum circles are relaxing, anxiety reducing and most of all – a lot of fun. Many thanks to Matt Giordano for leading us in this!
When you’re drummed out, come to the International Pot Luck Luncheon! Bring a favorite dish from your favorite part of the world to share!
Dear Fellow Christians,
On October 5, we celebrate World Communion Sunday with Christians all over the World. It is no coincidence that the Peacemaking Offering is collected on that day.
With the offering we express in a tangible way our hope for peace among all of the peoples of the world, peace among nations, peace in the cities and streets and peace in the homes and families. On that day we are in union with Christ, and through Christ we are in union with our fellow Christians everywhere.
We retain a portion (25%) of the offering which is directed by PPC to Alternatives for Battered Women to provide local shelters for women and children facing violence in the home.
Presbyteries and Synods use 25% for training and education in conflict management and immigration issues as well as grants for energy and housing.
The remaining funds from the offering are used by the General Assembly to lead travel and study seminars to promote peacemaking on a worldwide scale and to create resources to train others to be peacemakers.
You may view the work supported by the Peacemaking Offering here.
Let us open ourselves to God’s great work of peace through people like you and me. Join us for worship on World Communion Sunday, October 5 and let us give generously to the Peacemaking Offering.
May you experience peace in Christ,
The Mission Ministry Team

We are making progress on the PPC cookbook and are excited that it will be available for purchase later this fall – stay tuned for details.
As you know this cookbook project has been a multi-year process with a few starts and bumps along the way. Regretfully over the past years SOME of the recipes that were submitted by PPC members have been lost.
In order to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to be included in the cookbook please please re-submit your recipe(s) to Robin at csheppa1@rochester.rr.com as soon as possible. We are definitely missing recipes from some wonderful cooks in our congregation!!

Last month in service, we learned that the word water is mentioned in the Bible 772 times. That’s more often than love (538), faith (264), prayer (512), and joy (165)! We all have our favorite “water” stories from the Bible, many of which are depicted on the Water for Life bulletin board near the library. As you enter the cross roads lounge, you’ll notice a second bulletin board and a brick well.
This is the Water for Africa board. Our first mission project this year centers around providing a fresh water well to a village in southern Sudan through Water for Sudan, a non-profit organization aimed at providing clean water for health. Salva Dut, a “walking boy” and founder of this organization will share his mission with us in worship on World Communion Sunday, October 5th. Also watch for cookbook sales to benefit this project!
You oughta be in pixels! Nativity actors of all ages will be staged and photographed in advance of the Sunday, December 21 Christmas Pageant. Scenes of the story of Jesus’ birth will be shot at various locations around town and converted into a PowerPoint slide show. In the final performance, only one adult and four children are needed. The rest of the cast may sit back and watch themselves on the big screen.
No memorization of lines nor stage fright. We will take the costumes on the road while the weather is still nice. Who knows, maybe there can be a real donkey or sheep in the pageant this year. The possibilities are astounding and fun!
The title of the show is “Through the Eyes of a Child”. The narrative is a blend of Scripture and childlike observations about the First Christmas. There are plenty of roles for adults too, such as site coordination, production, transportation, etc.
Anybody wanting to be a part of this premier show should contact Kevin Krueger at ppcce@rochester.rr.com.
